2017-06-15T00:00:51Z rme: I just like CL. I like the traditional interactive, incremental, exploratory development style that it supports. I think CL does that better than Clojure. 2017-06-15T00:01:27Z mrottenkolber: To be honest I don’t know off hand which features if any of Clojure I would want to take with me to the next language, but I often found myself agreeing with, and even enlightened by Hickey as well. 2017-06-15T00:02:31Z rme: I don't like the advocacy I see on sites and books such as http://www.braveclojure.com: "Learn the ultimate language"? "Clojure, the most powerful and fun programming language on the planet"? 2017-06-15T00:03:10Z mrottenkolber: Smug lisp weenie + real hype? :D 2017-06-15T00:03:16Z rme: I get that it's rhetorial hyperbole, but sheesh. 2017-06-15T00:03:37Z rme: That's not the language's fault, of course. 2017-06-15T00:05:07Z rme: Maybe I need to write the book Brave Common Lisp. 2017-06-15T00:05:16Z mrottenkolber: But isn’t that a problem we generally have in the Lisp space, hyperbole and exaggerated praise? 2017-06-15T00:06:31Z mrottenkolber: I.e. my C programmer friend calls me a “Lisp fanboy”, and he’s right, I do catch myself praising it a lot and trying to point out its superiority. And the smug lisp weenie meme exists for a reason I guess. 2017-06-15T00:09:34Z mrottenkolber: Then again, I get better at controlling my enthusiasm with time, so since Clojure is a new language, it has many users that haven’t yet learned to cool their engines? 2017-06-15T00:10:36Z rme: "Here's this cool thing I did; CL really helped me" is enthusiasm, and I love to hear people say that kind of thing. 2017-06-15T00:14:03Z rme: Nobody likes to be told the equivalent of "here's a nickel, kid, buy yourself a real computer". And getting started with CL could be easier. "install emacs and slime and pick one of half a dozen CL implementations and work through M-x tutorial and ..." 2017-06-15T00:15:48Z rme: The ECLM was all about "here's this cool thing I did in CL". That's why those meetings were so fun. 2017-06-15T00:20:20Z mrottenkolber: Agree. I find myself wanting to convert my C friend. He does these amazig things with C (like write an SSH over HTTPS proxy so he can ssh out at work), and expect him to be even more productive if he just embraced Lisp, or even dynamic languages in general. But it doesn’t work that way. 2017-06-15T00:20:34Z mrottenkolber: s/proxy/tunnel 2017-06-15T00:21:42Z rme: I used to joke that we'd soon have tcp/ip over http, and it's coming true. 2017-06-15T00:28:10Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T00:32:52Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds) 2017-06-15T00:41:08Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T01:02:27Z pierpa quit (Quit: Page closed) 2017-06-15T01:14:01Z mrottenkolber quit (Ping timeout: 255 seconds) 2017-06-15T03:11:50Z rumbler31 quit (Remote host closed the connection) 2017-06-15T03:15:37Z fiddlerwoaroof joined #ccl 2017-06-15T04:07:47Z rme quit (Quit: rme) 2017-06-15T04:07:47Z rme quit (Quit: rme) 2017-06-15T04:12:24Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T04:16:58Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) 2017-06-15T04:29:01Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T04:33:32Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) 2017-06-15T05:13:51Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T05:19:16Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) 2017-06-15T06:10:27Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T06:14:55Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) 2017-06-15T06:15:37Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T06:19:50Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T06:57:53Z sabetts quit (Remote host closed the connection) 2017-06-15T07:52:02Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T07:56:46Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) 2017-06-15T08:11:02Z eschatologist quit (Ping timeout: 268 seconds) 2017-06-15T08:13:09Z hhdave joined #ccl 2017-06-15T08:13:57Z eschatologist joined #ccl 2017-06-15T09:18:34Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T09:23:13Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 246 seconds) 2017-06-15T11:54:04Z mrottenkolber joined #ccl 2017-06-15T12:57:45Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T13:18:07Z rumbler31 quit (Remote host closed the connection) 2017-06-15T13:27:10Z hhdave quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T13:32:46Z hhdave joined #ccl 2017-06-15T13:34:44Z hhdave_ joined #ccl 2017-06-15T13:36:57Z hhdave quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T13:36:58Z hhdave_ is now known as hhdave 2017-06-15T14:18:38Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T14:23:10Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T14:25:16Z rumbler31 joined #ccl 2017-06-15T15:19:46Z rumbler3_ joined #ccl 2017-06-15T15:23:57Z rumbler3_ quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T16:20:49Z rumbler3_ joined #ccl 2017-06-15T16:26:10Z rumbler3_ quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T16:40:57Z hhdave quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T17:32:35Z mrottenkolber quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T18:36:30Z mrottenkolber joined #ccl 2017-06-15T19:39:48Z pjb quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T19:49:06Z eschatologist quit (Ping timeout: 268 seconds) 2017-06-15T19:58:51Z eschatologist joined #ccl 2017-06-15T20:36:45Z pjb joined #ccl 2017-06-15T21:09:48Z pjb quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) 2017-06-15T22:22:03Z hhdave joined #ccl 2017-06-15T22:30:18Z hhdave quit (Quit: hhdave) 2017-06-15T22:44:19Z eschatologist quit (Quit: ZNC 1.6.4+deb1 - http://znc.in) 2017-06-15T22:44:58Z eschatologist joined #ccl 2017-06-15T23:02:37Z rumbler31 quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
