It's what I did in other libraries I wrote 15:16:19 pkhuong, I wrote about it here: www.symbo1ics.com/files/algs.pdf 15:17:01 section 3.3 15:17:03 he explicitly decided to do so instead of working with integers though 15:17:25 probably because it is usually faster 15:17:31 FP is fast 15:18:30 I sometimes wonder about revisiting bailey's approach of representing limbs with double floats 15:21:12 The problem I have with floats in general are their precision. Not that they're too imprecise, but they simply Don't Work Like Integers (tm), which just makes me scared that operations won't work correctly in *all* cases. But this is more due to my ignorance about the precise semantics of float operations. 15:24:19 the attractiveness for bignum is that they let the FPU handle > word-width shifting. 15:24:45 and, with appropriate care, we recover all the bits we care about after rounding. 15:26:35 yes 15:39:12 -!- christop` is now known as christoph_debian 15:41:56 stassats [~stassats@pppoe.178-66-26-210.dynamic.avangarddsl.ru] has joined #sbcl 15:42:01 -!- stassats [~stassats@pppoe.178-66-26-210.dynamic.avangarddsl.ru] has quit [Changing host] 15:42:01 stassats [~stassats@wikipedia/stassats] has joined #sbcl 15:54:31 -!- ddp [~ddp@216.243.111.165] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 15:54:50 ddp [~ddp@anon-155-109.relakks.com] has joined #sbcl 16:11:31 edgar-rft [~user@HSI-KBW-078-043-123-191.hsi4.kabel-badenwuerttemberg.de] has joined #sbcl 16:17:17 dtw [dtw@dsl-roibrasgw1-fe84fb00-215.dhcp.inet.fi] has joined #sbcl 16:27:04 Blkt` [~Blkt@82.84.186.71] has joined #sbcl 16:29:17 -!- Blkt [~user@82.84.172.202] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] 16:45:22 I suppose SBCL on Darwin/PPC is only 32 bits 16:48:49 -!- LiamH [~healy@pool-74-96-10-77.washdc.east.verizon.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds] 16:51:18 Quadrescence: right. 16:51:25 Blkt`` [~Blkt@82.84.135.7] has joined #sbcl 16:54:14 -!- Blkt` [~Blkt@82.84.186.71] has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds] 16:55:16 :C 16:58:01 my fixnums are too small! 17:02:19 -!- zhangkaizhao [~zhangkaiz@27.47.15.39] has quit [Quit: ] 17:04:52 LiamH [~healy@vpn219118.nrl.navy.mil] has joined #sbcl 17:09:05 -!- LiamH [~healy@vpn219118.nrl.navy.mil] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] 17:28:14 LiamH [~healy@pool-74-96-10-77.washdc.east.verizon.net] has joined #sbcl 18:12:22 -!- LiamH [~healy@pool-74-96-10-77.washdc.east.verizon.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] 18:13:42 ddp_ [~ddp@216.243.111.165] has joined #sbcl 18:13:54 -!- ddp_ [~ddp@216.243.111.165] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 18:14:13 ddp_ [~ddp@anon-156-11.relakks.com] has joined #sbcl 18:16:55 -!- ddp [~ddp@anon-155-109.relakks.com] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] 18:16:57 -!- ddp_ is now known as ddp 18:17:56 19:16:09 -!- akovalenko [~akovalenk@77.51.59.44] has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds] 19:19:04 akovalenko [~akovalenk@77.51.59.44] has joined #sbcl 19:30:40 LiamH [~healy@pool-74-96-10-77.washdc.east.verizon.net] has joined #sbcl 19:34:16 -!- angavrilov [~angavrilo@217.71.227.181] has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds] 19:36:17 prxq [~mommer@h1836333.stratoserver.net] has joined #sbcl 19:42:21 stassats` [~stassats@wikipedia/stassats] has joined #sbcl 19:45:49 -!- stassats [~stassats@wikipedia/stassats] has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds] 19:54:31 -!- prxq [~mommer@h1836333.stratoserver.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving] 20:04:31 -!- dtw [dtw@dsl-roibrasgw1-fe84fb00-215.dhcp.inet.fi] has quit [Quit: +++ATH0] 20:33:07 Kryztof [~user@81.174.155.115] has joined #sbcl 20:39:01 -!- kanru [~kanru@kanru-1-pt.tunnel.tserv15.lax1.ipv6.he.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds] 20:39:23 -!- christoph_debian [~user@DSL01.212.114.250.149.ip-pool.NEFkom.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 20:40:15 kanru [~kanru@kanru-1-pt.tunnel.tserv15.lax1.ipv6.he.net] has joined #sbcl 20:44:49 deepfire [~deepfire@80.92.100.69] has joined #sbcl 20:57:20 leuler [~user@p54904E74.dip.t-dialin.net] has joined #sbcl 21:04:25 -!- wbooze [~wbooze@xdsl-78-35-133-76.netcologne.de] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 21:08:52 wbooze [~wbooze@xdsl-78-35-133-76.netcologne.de] has joined #sbcl 21:11:25 -!- wbooze [~wbooze@xdsl-78-35-133-76.netcologne.de] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 21:13:05 pkhuong: Regarding lp#913232, thanks for looking into this!
