Is anyone already doing that? 20:41:09 it doesn't currently work, sorry. 20:41:12 bit rot. 20:42:15 Would hacking cocoa and replacing cocoa with gnustep be a gnarly mess? 20:45:06 Getting the low-level Objective-C stuff and Foundation working wouldn't be horribly hard. 20:46:06 Making the IDE work might be tougher. It works, sort of, with Cocotron, but there have been lots of bugs and unimplemented things in Cocotron, and I suppose gnustep would be in the same boat. 20:46:31 Cocotron is supposed to have worked on Linux at some point; I don't know if that'd be an easier approach. 20:47:04 -!- kilon [~kilon@athedsl-383088.home.otenet.gr] has quit [Remote host closed the connection] 20:47:17 It's possible that there's a compatibility layer on top of the GNU ObjC runtime that'd make that part easier, but as rme said that's not the hard part. 20:50:13 Is there an alternate GUI for linux that works better? 20:53:09 -!- milanj [~milanj_@93-87-152-91.dynamic.isp.telekom.rs] has quit [Quit: Leaving] 20:53:32 I get the feeling this has been discussed ad nauseum 20:54:17 Someone did a QT CL interface that AFAIK works in CCL. It was fairly extensive and I heard of someone using it fairly recently, but don't remember the exact name or URL. It depended on some way of generating C wrapper functions for all of the C++ stuff in QT. 20:54:20 mrpat: "nauseam" 20:55:41 mrpat: the goal of gnustep is to be compatible with Cocoa. if the CCL IDE doesn't work with it, you have the chance to fix such incompatibilities :) 20:57:03 http://common-lisp.net/project/commonqt/ 20:59:23 thanks fe[nl]ix I just don't want to get lost in it and 1000 hours later have nothing to show 20:59:52 I did get the commonqt examples to run on CCL 21:00:35 You guys make Cocoa sound so appealing 21:01:59 kilon [~kilon@athedsl-383088.home.otenet.gr] has joined #ccl 21:04:22 Thanks for your input 21:04:40 -!- mrpat [~mrpat@c-71-60-133-203.hsd1.pa.comcast.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving] 21:06:48 X11: the de facto substandard.
